The category
A desk is the one workspace most people never furnish properly. These are the flat, quiet pieces that warm it up.
Desk goods are cut in single panels, which means they demand the cleanest sections of the hide — no seams to hide a flaw behind.
Every mat and cover is finished on both faces and edge-sealed, so it looks intentional from any chair in the room.

Buying guide
A belt is the cheapest place a brand can cut a corner and the fastest place you notice. Six things separate a strap you replace annually from one you hand down.
Read the full guide1.25 inches for dress trousers and suits, 1.5 inches for jeans, chinos and work wear. Match the strap width to the belt loops, not to the buckle you like.
Dress belts are smooth, thin and finished with a polished frame buckle. Casual belts are thicker, pull-up or waxed, and take antique brass hardware that hides scuffs.
Vegetable-tanned bend for formal straps that hold a crisp edge; crazy horse or waxed full grain for casual straps that should mark and heal.
Full grain vs top grainOrder two inches above your trouser waist, never your jeans label. That centres the prong in the middle of five holes and leaves room in both directions.
How to measure belt sizeSolid brass and stainless outlast plated zinc, which pits within a year. Screws beat rivets: they let you swap a buckle instead of retiring the strap.
One continuous piece of leather, a burnished edge with no paint crust, tight even stitching at the fold, and a flesh side that is suede-soft rather than fuzzy and glued.
Buying by jeans size, choosing bonded 'genuine leather', over-conditioning a new strap, and rolling a belt tightly for storage — all shorten its life.
Material first
Strongest — ages best
The uppermost layer of the hide with the grain intact. Strongest fibre structure, develops the deepest patina.
Softest — most uniform
Lightly sanded and corrected for a uniform surface. Softer hand, more consistent colour, slightly less durable.
Rugged — self-healing
Full grain treated with a heavy wax. Marks and lightens under pressure, then heals — a living, rugged finish.
Firm — darkens with sun
Tanned with bark tannins over weeks rather than hours. Firm, honest, and it darkens beautifully with sunlight.
Supple — weather resistant
Hot-stuffed with oils for a supple, weather-resistant hand that slouches in quickly and resists water better than most finishes.
Soft — colour stable
Tanned for suppleness and colour stability. Soft from the first day, holds saturated tones, and shrugs off humidity.
Napped — light and soft
The napped underside of the hide brushed to a fine, even pile. Light and soft; protect it and keep it away from standing water.
Velvet nap — strong grain
Top grain sanded to a velvet nap on the grain side, keeping outer-hide strength with a suede-like touch. Brush the nap back after wear.

From the fold at the buckle to the hole you use. That number is your belt size.
Add two inches to your trouser waist — a 34 waist takes a 36 belt.
Order the smaller size. Every strap is punched with five holes at one-inch spacing.
Leather education
The intact top layer of the hide, grain and all — the strongest and slowest-wearing cut.
Full grain, top grain, genuine and bonded — what each label actually promises.
Why millimetres and ounces decide how a piece drapes, folds and holds its shape.
One cut loop unravels a lock-stitch. A saddle stitch holds. Here is why.
Turned edges, raw edges, welted soles and riveted anchors — where pieces fail first.
How tannage, wax and daily use combine into the finish a piece carries for decades.
Style guide
Match tone before texture: cognac belt to cognac oxford, black to black. Suede footwear pairs with a matte, unpolished strap.
Buy the belt and wallet in the same tannage so both patina at the same rate rather than drifting apart in year two.
1.25 in smooth strap, polished frame buckle, no visible stitching. The belt should disappear under a buttoned jacket.
1.25–1.375 in with a brushed buckle reads softer under a sport coat and still holds a tucked shirt cleanly.
A 1.5 in waxed strap survives being rolled into a carry-on and hides the scuffs a trip guarantees.

I have replaced cheaper versions of this twice. This one has outlasted both already. Ordered the olive mouse pad and it matches the listing exactly.

The photos undersell it. The grain is deeper and the edges are properly finished. Ordered the tan mouse pad and it matches the listing exactly.
