The intact top layer of the hide — the densest fibre structure available.
Cut, stitched and finished by one maker in our Austin workshop.
Saddle stitch in waxed linen: cut one loop and the seam still holds.
Built to be repaired, not replaced — hardware and seams are serviceable.
Small batch runs from single hides, signed by the maker who built it.
Solid brass and stainless steel, set on screws rather than crushed rivets.
Vegetable tannage means colour deepens with sunlight, oils and use.
The story
Crazy horse leather is full grain saturated with wax. Press a thumbnail into it and the surface lightens; rub it and the mark disappears. It is the only leather that gets more characterful the rougher your week is.
Cut at 1.5 inch from the shoulder, hand-waxed twice, edges slicked with gum tragacanth, harness buckle set with copper rivets and a stitched keeper.
Full grain steer hide, hot-stuffed with waxes and oils. Expect visible pull-up: every crease reads lighter before it settles back.
It belongs to the leather belts family and shares its tannage with our crazy horse leather pieces.

Seven stages
One maker follows a single piece from hide selection to the box it arrives in.
Hides are graded by hand; only the bend and shoulder make it to the cutting table.
Patterns are struck with a clicker die or hand knife, always with the grain direction.
Two needles, one waxed linen thread, seven stitches per inch through pricked holes.
Edges are bevelled, sanded through four grits, then burnished with beeswax and canvas.
Solid brass fittings set with Chicago screws so they can be replaced, never scrapped.
Every piece is measured, flexed and signed off against a fourteen-point checklist.
Wrapped in tissue, bagged in cotton and boxed with its care card and maker's mark.
Specifications
One grade of leather, no corrected splits, no bonded filler anywhere in the build.
Proportions drawn from mid-century patterns that have outlived every trend since.
Weight, thickness and hardware sized for daily carry rather than showroom shelves.
Clean edges and matte hardware that read correctly in a boardroom.
Hand-burnished edges and hand-set stitching you can feel with a thumb.
Serviceable construction backed by our lifetime craftsmanship warranty.

A belt is the cheapest place a brand can cut a corner and the fastest place you notice. Six things separate a strap you replace annually from one you hand down.
Measure through the belt loops of trousers you already wear, then order two inches above your trouser waist. That centres the prong in the middle of five holes.
Buyers replacing a disposable piece for the last time: people who would rather condition leather twice a year than reorder every eighteen months.
Five-day office wear, weekly travel and weekend use. The finish is chosen so scuffs read as character instead of damage.
Keep hardware tones consistent across belt, watch and bag; match leather tone within one shade of your shoes.
Unsized pieces — wallets, card holders, key holders — are the safest gifts. Add blind deboss initials for a personal finish that never dates.
Style guide
Stay within one shade of your leather tone; brown to brown, black to black.
Match tannage rather than colour — veg-tan with veg-tan ages in step.
Repeat the hardware metal on the buckle and case for a deliberate look.
Let the largest piece carry the darkest tone; accessories sit lighter.
Cognac full grain with navy or charcoal; brass hardware, polished oxfords.
Crazy horse and waxed grain — they absorb the abuse of transit and heal.
Black smooth grain, 1.25 inch strap, slim frame buckle, no visible stitching.
Leather care
Five habits separate leather that ages beautifully from leather that simply wears out.
Dry brush weekly, damp cloth monthly. Never saddle soap a waxed finish.
Learn moreA pea of neatsfoot or lanolin cream every three to six months, worked warm.
Learn moreHang or lay flat, away from direct sun and radiators. Cotton bag, never plastic.
Learn moreWax-based dubbin on rugged grains; leave vegetable-tanned pieces to breathe.
Learn moreStitching, hardware and soles are all serviceable — send it back, don't replace it.

I work outdoors. Six months in it looks like it has been on a horse for a decade, in the best way.

Every bend lightens then heals. It has more character than any belt I have owned.
