Our story
A workshop with a long memory
Leather Marvel began in 2014 in a 600 square foot bay in East Austin with two benches, one splitter and a stack of Tuscan vegetable-tanned shoulders. We still cut on the same bench.

What we make and why
Most leather goods sold in the United States are made from corrected, coated or bonded leather — hides sanded to hide their flaws and sprayed with pigment to fake a uniform surface. They look identical on day one and worse every day after.
We work almost exclusively in full grain and vegetable-tanned leather because it is the only material that improves under use. A wallet carried for five years should read like a record of those five years, not like a product that failed slowly.
The standards
Hides come from three tanneries: two in Tuscany working to bark-tanning schedules measured in weeks, and one in Wisconsin for our heavier bridle and harness stock. We inspect on arrival and reject roughly one hide in five for grain irregularity, brand marks or uneven substance.
Seams that carry load are saddle-stitched by hand with waxed linen thread. Hardware is solid brass or stainless, never plated zinc. Edges are sanded through four grits and burnished with water and canvas rather than sealed with edge paint, which chips and conceals sloppy work.
The warranty
Stitching, hardware and construction are warranted for as long as you own the piece. Send it back and we repair it. We only replace when a repair would compromise the piece — and we tell you which one you are getting before we start.
