Leather Finish: Aniline, Semi-Aniline and Pigmented
Finish is the coating above the grain. It decides absorption, colour stability, stain resistance and whether patina is even possible.
Buyers argue about grade and tannage and then ignore the finish, which is the layer their hands actually touch.
Aniline
Transparent dye only, no pigment. Pores stay open, patina is strong, staining is easy.
Semi-aniline
A light pigment layer over dye. The practical compromise for daily bags.
Pigmented
Opaque coating. Excellent stain resistance, uniform colour, no meaningful patina.
