Edge Finishing: The Detail That Separates Workshops
Raw, painted or burnished — how an edge is treated predicts how the piece survives pocket and desk abrasion.
Edges take more abrasion than any other surface. They are also where corner-cutting is most visible.
Raw edge
Left unfinished. Acceptable on some rugged designs, but it frays with wear.
Painted edge
Layers of edge paint sanded between coats. Fast, clean, and prone to chipping if under-cured.
Burnished edge
Sanded, wet, waxed and friction-polished into a sealed, glass-smooth surface.
