Nubuck: Sanded Full Grain With a Velvet Hand
Nubuck is top-side hide sanded to a fine nap. Stronger than suede because it comes from the grain layer, and just as absorbent.
Nubuck starts from the grain side, so its short nap sits on the strongest fibres in the hide — the reason nubuck boots outlast suede ones.
Grain-side nap means grain-side strength
Sanding is shallow: the dense fibre network beneath remains, giving nubuck real structural durability.
It burnishes rather than scratches
Contact points darken and smooth over time, which many owners prefer to the way suede simply mats.
